Self reflection on Rotation 8 AM

I enjoyed my time during my ambulatory care rotation; I feel as if the providers I worked with were very caring, patient, and willing to teach. At this rotation I further sharpened different skills such as taking a history, writing notes, and physical examinations. During the visits, I would go interview the patient myself, take a physical exam, present to the provider explaining the most likely diagnosis, and then writing a note. Site Evaluation Presentation Summary Rotation 8 AM

During my site evaluation, I presented a 23-year-old male presented to urgent care complaining of cough for 2 days. I made sure to outline his smoking history as well as his history of allergies. I outlined the lung and cardio exam I did on him in detail due to his chief complaint being a cough. After presenting the physical exam I broke down my differential diagnosis and the reasoning behind all of them. Journal Article and Summary Rotation 8 AM

The name of the article I presented was “Zinc Supplementation Associated with a Decrease in Mortality in COVID-19 Patients”. This article was published via Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSUMD) by Spencer Z. Rheingold et al. This article was centered around a meta-analysis that included 3 retrospective cohort studies and 2 randomized control trials. For mortality, it was found that COVID-19-infected individuals treated with zinc supplement had a reduced risk of mortality than individuals not treated with a zinc supplement. In this analysis, two studies demonstrated a significant association between zinc supplements and mortality, whereas three others failed to reach significance. The two …

Self reflection on Rotation 7 LTC

I had an interesting time during my long-term care rotation; I feel as if my preceptor was very down to earth and patient with me within regards to teaching. At this rotation I sharpened different skills such as taking a history, writing a plan, writing an assessment, and how to deal with agitated patients. I feel as if I gained a lot of experience in my time with the NP whom I followed for most of my time during this rotation. During my site evaluation, I presented an 85-year-old man presenting for short stay rehab who was recently discharged from the Manhattan VA post treatment for fall and acute episode of pneumonia and CHF exacerbation. I made sure to outline his whole hospital course as well as his status prior to this incident within regard to his ambulation, independence, or dependence in ADLs and IADLs, and living situation.      The name of the article I chose was “Interventions for frostbite injury” by Lorentenz et al and was published to the Cochrane database of systematic reviews in December of 2020. The article is based on a systematic review to assess the benefits and harms of different management options for frostbite injuries. Within regard to intervention the study looked at forms of intervention such as pharmacological therapy, topical treatments, and rewarming techniques.
